Sporting life in the Sunja area has had a long
tradition; the soccer club "Sunjski" dates back to 1927, another one
"Mladost" Bobovac to 1928 and the fishing club "Bjelka"
(whitefish) to 1947.
Currently, there are two active soccer clubs :
"Sloga" (concord) from Greda Sunjska and another one
"Mladost" (youth) Bobovac. These two clubs play in the second county
league. The "Bjelka" fishing club is one of the most trophied such
clubs in Croatia. The club seniors were the first in the country from 1995 to
1998. Moreover, they represented Croatia as members of the Croatian team on
European and world championships. Our fellow resident, Djuro Adamovic was the
Croatian seniors' team coach. There are 220 club members at the moment. They
compete in six categories.
Our local archery club "Sunja" was
organised in 1999, and currently has about thirty members. Though they are a
young club, they have won several Croatian championships in junior categories.
The club organises tournaments and participates in nearly all competitions
across Croatia. A new challenge for the club is renovation and setting up of the
club's premises as well as procurement of new equipment. The members' motto
"Arrow, a symbol of speed, clears the mind and sets one free of internal
blocades" spurs them to achieve new victories.
One of the youngest clubs is the "Stuka"
(pike) fishing club from Bobovac, founded in 2003.
Its aim is also preservation of the environment.
Darting club "Sloga Greda Sunjska" was
founded in 2003. Its members achieve significant results on tournaments and
competitions throughout Croatia.
