Croatian state road  D-224 takes you up to the fringes of the Sava flatlands, into the Sunja rivulet valley, where Sunja town is nestled. Nature and the surroundings have facilitated human settlement throughout the ages. On the other hand, the very location played a crucial role in a struggle for survival of the local people in this picturesque place skirted by the mighty Sava river.If wou head out to explore the region, Sisak, the County seat, Hrvatska Dubica or Hrvatska Kostajnica – other neightbouring municipalities are nearby.

Nowdays, Sunja is the seat of the municipality spread over 288.28 square kilometers. There are 7134 inhabitants living in 40 villages who make their living in agriculture, livestock breeding, trade and crafts.
